    Quantitative Geochemistry By Haibo Zou

Modern geochemistry utilizes three powerful tools: (major and trace) elements, isotopes, and equations, to study various Earth and environmental processes. A combination of the experimental tools (elements and isotopes) with theoretical tools (equations) provides penetrating insights into the Earth and environmental processes. The aim of this book is to link equations more closely with geochemical measurements, including elemental abundances and (radiogenic, radioactive and stable) isotopic compositions. The importance to use equations in scientific research has been best stated by Albert Einstein “Equations are more important to me, because politics is for the present, but an equation is somethingfor eternity.

  • Principles of Induction Logging Methods in Geochemistry and Geophysics By A.A.KAUFMAN

Principles of Induction Logging Methods in Geochemistry and Geophysics By A.A.KAUFMAN

Induction well logging is an established method for surveying the electrical conductivity of rocks surrounding a borehole and proceeded from the early efforts of H. G. Doll (1949, 1952). In its simplest form, an induction well-logging device consists of two coils; one is a transmitter and the other is a receiver. The transmitter coil is energized with an alternating current at frequencies of twenty kilohertz and much higher, while the electromotive force, caused by a change of the magnetic field, is detected at the receiver coil.

In almost all cases with some important exceptions, the axes of the coils are coincident with the axis of the borehole. The separation between the transmitter and receiver coils is termed the probe length, and this parameter is commonly used to control the depth of investigation of the logging device away from the borehole

  • Principles of Sequence Stratigraphy

    Principles of Sequence Stratigraphy

Sequence stratigraphy analyzes the sedimentary response to changes in base level, and the depositional trends that emerge from the interplay of accommodation (space available for sediments to fill) and sedimentation.Sequence stratigraphy has tremendous potential to decipher the Earth’s geological record of local to global changes, and to improve the predictive aspect of economic exploration and production. For these reasons,
sequence stratigraphy is currently one of the most active areas of research in both academic and industrial environments.

  • Satellite Remote Sensing for Archaeology By Sarah H.Parcak

Satellite Remote Sensing for Archaeology By Sarah H.Parcak

It is my sincere hope that students, professional archaeologists, archaeological researchers and all people fascinated by the potential for satellite remote sensing in archaeology will find this book useful. It is, more than anything else, a product of my thinking back to my graduate student days, and what I wish had existed then to help me get started with my work.

Before I proceed, it is important for me to explain why I have chosen to write this book in the first place. The use of satellite imagery in archaeology is a topic about which I am passionate, having spent eight years developing methods for archaeological site location in different regions of Egypt (Sinai, the Delta, and Nile Valley), teaching remote sensing courses, and (two years ago) starting a remote sensing laboratory.
